Happy Thanksgiving!

 Thursday, November 25, 2010

I got up and ran with Lesley this morning to do our own version of the Turkey Trot, we called it '10k on Turkey Day'.  It was cold and windy.  I decided to map out our 6.2 miles and include the 2 mile long  bridge in our course.  NOT such a great idea.  We only made it about a half of a mile on the bridge  before turning around, the wind on bridge was about 30 mph, not fun and not easy to run in.  So, we headed back and ran around my neighborhood, like usual.  This was the first time I got to use my Garmin watch on a real run.  I love that it tells me everything about my run!  Although I dislike how it tells m..e we started off pretty good, then slowed way down ;-)  Oh well, we still got in our 6.2 miles, I can't complain.   I just need to figure out how to use it correctly.  Me + technology = disaster!

Then, I headed to Starbucks to bring us home some yummy drinks!  I figured I deserved some deliciousness.

Then onto the food.  Of course ;-)  It was pretty simple this year:

Turkey breast...
Cranberry sauce...

Delicious homemade rolls...
(oops...I had already eaten one before I could get a picture, it wasn't the last I ate before dinner!)

And then we had green beans & sweet potatoes too...

And of course, my favorite pumpkin pie....
And the whip cream...such a treat for the boys to lick the whisk...love this picture...

Happy Thanksgiving!

A celebration of a halves...

 Sunday, September 26, 2010

Yes, today Dylan turned 18 months (one and a half!).  Hooray!  And today I ran my very first Half Marathon.  In celebration, we had this for dinner:

Yes, chocolate cake.  No joke.  This is what we ate for dinner.  It was delicious.  The boys were thrilled and I was happy  as can be.  It was lovely.

But for the record, we had some raw veggies and ranch for an 'appetizer'...
And the tomatoes came straight from our garden.  Yummy!

I can not believe Dylan is a year and a half.  Crazy.  I know I say this every birthday, but it seems like just last week we were rushing to the hospital with our impatient baby boy (aka our  'Freeway' baby).  He is just as impatient now, especially when he wants milk, he is a milk addict.  Seriously.  And food addict too.  He finishes his meal, asked to get down, then climbs up on Connor's seat and finishes Connor's food.  Too funny.  He has some of the funniest and most serious looks.  Here are a couple recent pictures of our little man:
Loving the chocolate cake!

Lovely bruise on his head.  He is all boy.  And he is eating a gummy fish.

So cute.

So serious.

We love you Dylan!  You are so sweet & such a joy each and every day.

And onto the half marathon...
I ran in the Heels & Hills  half marathon today.  Dare I say it was fun?!?  But it really was.  Who knew I could enjoy 13.2 miles of running ;-)  Certainly not me!  But I did.  I finished with a time of 2 hours and 8 minutes.  I was very pleased with that time.  Here are the stats:  I averaged 9:50 miles.  (Which is a bit off since I ran the first 7 miles considerably slower than I ran the last 6, which I realize is odd, but I didn't want to burn out before the finish line.)  I came in #11 in my age group, and #155 overall.  Not sure how many people total in the race, but there seemed like quite a lot ;-)

Pre-race photo in the dark...
Note: my bright green bib not only stood out, it had my name on it & it said in big bold letters, "First Half Marathon".  LOL.  Way to call me out ;-)  It was pretty funny.

Not sure if the link will work or not, but click here to see the photos from Sport Photo.  Some are pretty funny.  You may have to search.  Event date 9-26-2010, my bib # 426

And an after race photo...
Yes, we went to eat.  Mexican food.  YUM.

And I couldn't pass up a margarita...
After all, I did earn it.  Well, actually I earned two.  Ha!

It was a fun-filled day.  I am tired.  My legs hurt.  But it was well worth it.  I am so glad I decided to be crazy and run a half marathon.  And even more excited that I finished the race!

Week 3!

 Monday, September 13, 2010

Today starts week 4 of our 100 day Fitness Challenge!  Click here to see my original goals.  I am doing fairly well.

Here is a re-cap of how I am doing with my goals:

*1.  I have done some sort of exercise every day!  That is 21 days straight.  Woohoo!  However, I must confess that this last week, I feel like I made up some work-outs.  One day I got out the Wii-fit (when it was storming & we were having Tornado warnings) just so I could get a short work-out in.  And then Friday, we walked to the grocery store to buy garlic bread for dinner.  Yes, that was logged as exercise, but we did walk around the block a couple times too.  LOL.

*2.  I think I have gone to the gym at least 4 days a week.

*3.  I have signed up for a total of 5 races now.  Yikes!  I completed the first one this weekend.  It was only a 5k (official time of 29:06).  I came in #63 out of 210 runners, I finished #4 in my age group (ages 20-29).  My pace time was 9:24, which is really fast for what I have been training at.  Anyways, my other races are this coming Saturday (before the WSU football game) I am running a 10k.  Then, the next weekend is my big Half Marathon.  Then following that is a fun 5k through a vineyard.  Woohoo!  I sure have my work cut out for me.  And lastly, I signed up for another Half Marathon on New Year's Day.  Mainly, because it is a small race (200 runners) and the date will be 1/1/11.  How cool is that?!?

*4.  The eating healthy goal is debatable.  LOL.  Here are just a few of the things I have eaten in the last 3 weeks:

Banana pancakes (per Connor's request begging!)
Veggie Kabobs
Homeade Ice cream..YUM!
Bowl of tomatoes with salt, pepper, and olive oil.
Big fat greasy pizza.
Tacos.
 Pasta.
Panini with grilled squash.

*5.  And I haven't tried any new classes, after Zumba, I am a little intimidated.  LOL.  I am just not coordinated for those types of classes.  I did do hula hooping on the Wii.  That was fun & entertaining.

Food Obsession???

 Sunday, February 8, 2009

So, apparently this weekend has been all about food...or that is what Chris makes of it. Yesterday before going to the zoo, I had come up with a grocery list of things from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, whichever we were going to stop at on the way home since we were close by. Chris asked, "How do we go through so much food? I never see Connor eating." He said this looking at my growing belly! So, he was implying that I eat all the food, which is fine by me, I have good reason too :) So, we get home from the zoo and store, I start some bread dough in the breadmaker to make 'pigs in a blanket'-they just sounded good even though usually I can't stand hotdogs. So, I am making those, but also put some acorn squash in the oven. I asked Chris to put the 'pigs in a blanket' in the oven to bake, when he went to put them in the oven, he didn't notice the squash, I had to yell at him that there was something else in there...then, this lead to, "What else are you making?" I told him that squash just sounded good, so we were also having that. Boy, would I haven't gotten a dirty look if I would have made the brownies I was planning on, but just ran out of time. Then, after dinner we had grapefruit that we sliced in half, put a little brown sugar on and broiled, it was delicious!

So, then today, we went to Costco and bought more food, mostly fruits & veggies...but since they only sell in bulk, we have a lot! So, I come home and we have pretzels with a beer cheese dip for lunch, then I decided to eat a plate of tomatoes with salt & pepper, but didn't offer any to Chris since he doesn't like tomatoes. Then, he looks at me and ask, "Now, what are you eating?" I told him to be careful, I might start hiding food around the house! Then for dinner we had salmon, which we grilled outside on the new cedar planks we got for Christmas, it was really good! Then for dessert we had grapefruit again! And now we are munching on a pound of rosemary cashews we roasted! YUM! I definately got my omega-3's today, guess I will have to wait to eat those 5 avacados until tomorrow!

So, Chris came to this conclusion: No wonder Jenn doesn't get anything done during the day, she is in the kitchen cooking and eating all day. Which is pretty much true, but hey, I only have a few more weeks to use this baby as an excuse and it isn't like I am gaining "too much" weight, so I have to do it now while I still can :) Anyways, we just have laughed about this all weekend b/c I really do eat all day long and quite random stuff as it has ranged from strawberries to avacados to grapefruit to hotdogs to broccoli to icecream-at least most is healthy! Chris has always laughed about how much butter, cheese, flour and milk we go through-now I guess he is realizing the reason! I guess it is sad that we buy carrots, celery, oranges, bananas, grapefruit, kiwi, onions, apples, potatoes, and avacados in bulk at Costco, but we very rarely ever throw any out!

And one more funny bit about our weekend: Connor has been such a picky eater lately, so I dried pears, bananas, and kiwi on Thursday and Friday, well, Friday, he ate all of the bananas, all of the kiwi, and lots of the pears in addition to having a fruit smoothie and a few blueberry muffins. Well, poor kid was in the bathroom a lot that night and Saturday morning. I finally figured out why, when I realized how much fruit he had really eaten...at least 6 (but problably more) kiwi and our smoothies were a mix of oranges, blueberries, kiwi, strawberries, banana, and raspberry, plus all the dried pears and bananas. That sure is a lot of fruit for a Connor-man!
